While working out my next pattern, I started fooling around and came across a cool front post technique. I've not seen it in some of the research I've done but I'm certainly not going to claim it's creation. It's really quite simple to do and can be done with a number of different stitches. You get kind of a puffed ribbed, waffle affect that's fun and not to mention cute. Let me show you how...
1. Start with a single crochet base. Chain 3 and turn.
2. Skip 1 single crochet, half double crochet in the next.
3. Chain 1, skip 1 and half double crochet in the next. Repeat to the end.
4. Chain 3 and turn. Now here is where you start your front post stitch. You are going to go through the front of the work in the chain one space.
5. Yarn over and pull through both spaces.
6. Chain 1, skip 1, half double front post. Repeat to the end.
The work will start out as a more open weave.
You can adjust how open of a weave you want when you trim out your work. By putting 1-2 single crochets in open spaces would prevent the work from folding back up.
And of course, a longer stitch will make a more open weave as well. Here I used a double crochet.
No matter how you work the technique, it's all about having fun with it. After all, that's what crocheting is all about!
However, as it rests it tightens up and you get a closer ribbing.
This is me thinking I know what I'm doing. HAHAHAHA
